Originally a case study to produce a movie poster in a specific design style from the past. In this case, three illustrative posters for the Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 in the style of Art Deco due to the visual design parallels between the genre of science-fiction and this popular 20's design style. Turned to a more appropriate design for potential merchandise for the movie
The Guardian of the Galaxy is a superhero science-fiction movie. Within this genre, there are a lot of design parallels between the visual styles of science-fiction and Art Deco. From the use of smooth straight lines, with a combination of hard and curved edges in the spaceship design and control hub interfaces. As well as, A fictional society of gold humanoid beings that have similar design elements to Art Deco’s sleek sculptures and strong diagonal interior styles.
Due to the high stylization of these posters and the absence of a “billing block.” This poster would not be intended to be used as a traditional movie poster, seen in theaters or on billboards. Instead it could be used for merchandise such as a front cover of children’s notebooks, postcards, keychain or a badge on the front of a sweater.
